The Proud Trust + Walk the PlankMCR Day 2018
Manchester Day 2018's theme was Word On The Street so, following discussions with The Proud Trust's group of trans young people we decided to resurrect Pioneering Gay rights activist, Marsha P Johnson, credited with sparking the Stonewall Riots in 1969.
As a community led parade it was extremely important to put the voices of The Proud Trust's young people at the forefront of the this section so we seized on the opportunity of this years brief being "word on the street" to present a politically charged section. I worked closely with participants throughout and facilitated them to be as involved with the making process as I could. This included running several workshops to create headdresses and props for the section as well as inviting participants to come into the workshop and work alongside me in the run up to the parade.
